Skrewball whiskey originated from a popular cocktail in the brand's restaurant in Ocean Beach, California. The founder, Steve, a Cambodian refugee, developed a passion for peanut butter and created a whiskey-based cocktail that quickly became one of the best-sellers in his bar. Together with his wife Brittany, a lawyer and chemist, they created a unique spirit, crafted with real quality ingredients, to celebrate the difference and uniqueness of each individual.

Skrewballs are people who embrace their weirdness and uniqueness, and the Skrewball brand is a tribute to these individuals who have the courage to follow their own path.

In March 2023, the French alcoholic beverage producer Pernod Ricard, a major player in its sector, acquired a majority stake in Skrewball.
