LOT N°40 is a pure Canadian Rye, 100% rye, from one of Canada's largest distilleries: Hiram Walker & Sons in Ontario (to the south, close to the American border opposite Detroit).In the late 1990s, the distillery sought to develop a range of high quality whisky: Lot 40 is one of those.


Mike Booth, master assembler of his condition, conceived as a tribute to the first North American whisky producers, who used easy-to-access rye for many. This was particularly the case in Canada where the Irish and Germans, who came from faraway Europe, put all their talent into the Rye, which soon became synonymous with Canadian whisky. He named Lot 40 in memory of the plot number, on which Joshua Booth, his ancestor had built the first distillery in the 19th century


Lot 40 is distilled, for the first time in a column alembic, and a second slowly in small batches. Lot 40 is raised in new American oak barrels, to soften the distillate. These frankwood barrels bring notes of vanilla and caramel.
