Intermiel

A bit of history

Viviane and Christian Macle, both teachers originally from Picardy, a region in Northern France, settled in Quebec in 1969. In 1976, Christian, who had been passionate about beekeeping since his childhood, bought a small farm in the Saint-Benoît (Mirabel) area, which the couple gradually transformed into a beekeeping farm. At that time, they owned about a hundred beehives.

In the 1980s, they launched an official range of honey. Driven by their passion for beekeeping and their teaching skills, this visionary couple decided to introduce the fascinating world of bees by opening a small beekeeping shop. Over the years and through successive expansions driven by their desire to share their knowledge, the Macle family continued to welcome visitors all year round while diversifying their product range simultaneously. In the 1990s, they began to produce mead, maple eau-de-vie, and ice cider.

Today, Intermiel is a large-scale farm managing the production of 5,000 beehives, operating a sugar bush of 14,000 taps, and a 600 apple tree orchard. The Macle family can boast of producing a range of 100% Quebec honey from their beehives, supported by a traceability program. Intermiel is recognized in the province and across America for the quality and diversity of its products, as well as for its educational aspect. Thanks to its agrotourism vocation, it welcomes more than 100,000 visitors each year, including 15,000 students from schools across the province.

In 2006, the succession was secured with their daughter Éléonore, who became the owner of the business with her parents. Éléonore's husband, Cyril Lapeyrie, is responsible for the production of maple syrup and manages the beekeeping aspect of the business.

Their Products

The Api Gin by Macle is an exceptional artisanal product made from honey produced by our thousands of beehives. This delightful honey gin is created with the expertise of their foraging workers, offering notes of juniper, citrus, and coriander with an aniseed touch that blends harmoniously in the mouth.

Macle Ice Cider is made by pressing apples that have been naturally frozen, then fermenting their juice. This unique method concentrates the flavors, thus offering a rich and distinctive taste experience, typical of the Quebec terroir. Ice cider is perfect for an aperitif and pairs particularly well with pâtés, foie gras, and strong cheeses. You can also serve it for dessert or as a digestif.

The Medieval owes its deep amber color to a selection of buckwheat honeys which is then aged in oak barrels. Its complex nose reveals aromas of dried fruits, apricots, and flowers with a woody touch, vanilla, and coffee. On the palate, it is powerful, full-bodied, rich, well-rounded, fatty, and flavorful, with both a woody and delicate finish. The Medieval can replace a dessert wine and is best enjoyed as an aperitif with a block of foie gras, a real treat!
